AB Bank PLC – A Brief History
AB Bank PLC is Bangladesh’s first private Bank. It was founded on December 31, 1981, and earlier, it was known as Arab Bangladesh Bank; it started functioning on April 12, 1982. Its vision is to be the best bank in the country.
AB aims to be the leading service provider and to create sustainable value for its customers, shareholders, employees, but most importantly, for the community in which it provides service. They have managed to build a prestige and a legacy that many others might find very difficult to emulate. Within the last 41 years, AB achieved many goals and brought about many changes. Its aim is to be the innovative bank in Bangladesh through the use of technology. AB has introduced internet banking, SMS banking, advanced ICT, modern network solutions, 24/7 ATM service, and many other electronic products in order to win this new time challenge of technology.
In the last forty years, AB has much expanded its services both at home and abroad. The bank opened its first branch at Karwan Bazar on April 12, 1982, and so far has reached a total of 105 branches, one in Mumbai of India, and more than 270 ATMs across the country. It has 5 smaller companies, including one offshore bank and services for keeping assets safe, which work together with its main banking activities. The bank opened an office in Yangon, Myanmar to help with its international operations.
