Bank Asia Limited – A Brief History

In 1999, Bank Asia PLC. was established by a group of renowned successful entrepreneurs of the country. A team led by some senior bankers having multifaceted experience in national and international markets heads the bank. The senior management is supplemented by a team of highly qualified professionals, many of whom have international exposure.

It achieved another major milestone by acquiring the Dhaka-based business operations of Bank of Nova Scotia, a first of its kind in the banking history of Bangladesh. It repeated the feat again by acquiring Bangladesh operations of the well-known Pakistani bank, Muslim Commercial Bank Ltd.

In 2003, when many people wanted to buy its shares in the Initial Public Offering, the Bank drew massive public attention. It was a record in the history of Bangladesh’s capital market; it received 55 times more interest than expected.

The assets and liabilities have shown impressive growth over these years. Bank Asia has been operating in the local money market and the foreign currency market without putting the Bank at risk. The Bank’s investment in Treasury Bills and other securities went up by a good extent, creating scopes for improvement of income as interest rates gradually come down.

Bank Asia PLC commenced its operation with a pledge to bring succor to the people’s needs with modern and innovative banking products and services at an affordable cost. The bank will provide modern and precious banking services to all members of the society by way of maintaining the highest standards in the global world, using new developments in technology.

Bank Asia PLC. has so far played a big role in helping more people of Bangladesh to reach banking services. It started “Agent Banking” services in 2014 to reach the farthest parts of the country.
