Export Import Bank of Bangladesh Limited – A Brief History
EXIM Bank was founded in 1999 as the Export Import Bank of Bangladesh PLC. The bank started its journey with a vision to contribute our country’s socio-economic development through financing industrialization, women’s empowerment, foreign trade and infrastructure development. A group of very skilled and successful businesspeople worked together with the founder chairman to make the dream come true.
EXIM Bank started its operation on August 3, 1999, and was known as Bengal Export Import Bank Ltd. On November 16, 1999, it got a new name, Export Import Bank of Bangladesh Ltd. Mr. Alamgir Kabir became the Founder Advisor, and Mr. Mohammad Lakiotullah became the Founder Managing Director. They both had a lot of experience in our country’s financial sector. It is through the practical choices and management rules that this bank was able, in a very short period of time, to hold a strong and distinctive position within the frame of the banking industry for its performance, growth, and management excellence. Mr. Lakiotullah led the Bank to change all its regular banking services to Shariah Based Islami Banking in July 2004. On 15 May 2024, it was again renamed Export Import Bank of Bangladesh PLC.
