ICB Islamic Bank Limited – A Brief History

The Bank was established in April 1987 as a public limited company under the Companies Act of 1913. It is intended to carry out all sorts of banking, financial, and commercial activities, transactions, and operations. It must work based on Islamic Law (Shariah) with regard to business activities, particularly the avoidance of usury in credit and sales transactions and whatever actions are regarded as usury. The bank received its certificate of commencement of business on April 30, 1987. Bangladesh Bank granted the permission to operate banking business in Bangladesh with effect from May 4, 1987. But the bank actually commenced its operation on May 20, 1987.

The bank offers many types of banking services to customers while following the rules of the Bank Company Act 1991, guidelines from Bangladesh Bank, and Islamic Shariah principles.
