Pubali Bank PLC – A Brief History

The Bank was first emerged in the Banking scenario of the then East Pakistan as Eastern Mercantile Bank Limited at the initiative of some Bengali entrepreneurs in the year 1959 under with a view to providing credit to the Bengali entrepreneurs who had lesser access to the credit in those days from other financial institutions.

After the independence of Bangladesh in 1972, Government of independent Bangladesh nationalized the bank by the name of Pubali Bank. Subsequently due to changed circumstances, this bank was again denationalized in the year 1983 as a private bank and named as Pubali Bank Limited. The bank has been playing a vital role in socio-economic, industrial, and agricultural development, besides overall economic development of the country through mobilization of savings and investment of funds since its establishment.

Currently, Pubali Bank PLC is the largest private commercial bank having 504 Branches, 195 Sub-Branches, 21 Islamic Banking Window Branch and it has the largest real time centralized online banking network.
